SCHADS 5 and 6 Level Roles



As the Homes for Families Practitioner, you will provide support to families with children experiencing homelessness who are residing in emergency accommodation due. This role will support families access stable housing and to provide integrated support.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or a related subject area. Tertiary qualifications with extensive experience in family work will be considered
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake complex casework with families and children who have experienced trauma
  • Work experience in a relevant field
  • Needs, risk and social skills assessment and intervention
  • Have awareness and knowledge of attachment and trauma theories – relating to Aboriginal children, young people and families

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality, flexible and responsive family support 
  • Work in close collaboration with housing providers and other stakeholders
  • Provide emotional and practical support and guidance to parents in relation to parenting and providing for the health, safety and wellbeing of all family members
  • Conduct child and family needs and risk assessments on an ongoing basis
  • Provide information and assistance in building the confidence of the parents to access a range of services and support their development towards independence
